Herald Square consists of both Herald Square and Greeley Square. Herald Square is across from Macy’s between Broadway & Sixth Avenue on 34th Street; it was also the location of the New York Herald, a daily newspaper that was a staple for many New Yorkers for over 90 years. It stopped printing in 1924. Greeley Square was named after Horace Greeley, a newspaper publisher and editor. Remember, “Go West, young man, go West” from your American history class. He coined it and was very instrumental in the expansion of the west.

Chelsea was named in 1750's by Thomas Clarke when he bought the land, from 21st Street to 24th Street. His daughter inherited the land from her father. Charity and her husband Benjamin Moore, a minister and president of Columbia University, had one child, Clement Clarke Moore; he wrote "A Visit from St. Nicholas". Today, Chelsea has numerous historic districts, landmarks, and there are public art sculptures for all to view. New to the area is the Chelsea Market and The High Line.

Madison Square Park 23rd Street to 26th Street gets its name from our fourth president, James Madison, and from a house (Madison Cottage). The roots of the New York Knickerbockers Base Ball Club originated here in 1842 on a vacant lot, but when the lot was sold, the team moved to Hoboken where the professional team played their first game. This is the area where Theodore Roosevelt and Jennie Jerome (Winston Churchill’s mother) was born and where they may have played in their youth. Today, the park has numerous events and people go to eat, talk, sit and much more.
