What is a curiosity tutor? I recently received an e-mail from Slideshare.net with a slide presentation titled “20 Jobs of the Future” by Sparks & Honey (check it out at: http://www.slideshare.net/sparksandhoney/jobs-of-the-future-deck-v3-090413mf?utm_source=slideshow&utm_medium=ssemail&utm_campaign=weekly_digest ). Their description of one of the future job was: “ Curiosity Tutor: A personal advisor in flaenuring: an advisor that not only provides inspiration and content to spark curiosity, but one that teaches the art of discovery”1.
Then, I looked up “flaenuring” and Wikipedia had it as “Flânerie refers to the act of strolling, with all of its accompanying associations.” In the second paragraph it said: “The flâneur was, first of all, a literary type from 19th century France, essential to any picture of the streets of Paris. It carried a set of rich associations: the man of leisure, the idler, the urban explorer, the connoisseur of the street.”2
Special Places to See Productions wants you to join us as curiosity tutors, explorers and discoverers of your neighborhood, town, state, nation. We love to explore and discover new places, sculptures, art and so much more. We will tell you stories of some of the interesting museums, sculptures or murals. We will have videos and pictures for you to view and we will have listings of many of the great sites in your neighborhoods.
We are launching with New York City and neighboring areas. As we explore, we would love for you to also participate in telling us your stories of some of the places that you have discovered or re-explored.
Hopefully, we will have the opportunity to meet some of you as we explore more interesting places throughout the United States.
Please join us as curiosity tutors as we Explore America’s hidden jewels. Happy trails to all and may we meet soon. Until next time....
