A smile crossed my face as I saw a 10 year old boy reading on the subway. He did not use his tablet, Nook or iPhone, he used a book. What a beautiful surprise. The smell of a book, the touch of a book, turning its page does not compare to any other individual experience. I love books.

The Grolier Club

Back in 1884, a book collector and lover of book art named Robert Hoe invited some of his like-minded friends and collectors to join him. They met and started this renown organization, The Grolier Club. It still continues their main objective of collecting and studying books and the graphic arts. It is private, but a few times in the year they open their doors for us to view some of histories book art.

I attended the Grolier Club's exhibit "One Hundred Books Famous in Children's Literature". Books from my childhood, books that taught me English, books that I read to my siblings were there. They had books going back to 1600 ending with Harry Potter in 2000. There were beautiful pop-up books, dolls and toys from these children stories. Books in black and white to those beautifully painted. This is the opportunity for all to view "Orbis Pictus" (the oldest book in the exhibit) to 18-19th century children readers to "Alice in Wonderland" to "Harry Potter". So many great books and those I've never seen. There were letters from some of these great authors. This is an exhibit that not only bibliophiles but everyone will truly enjoy. It will close on February 7th, don't miss it.
