Rossville

Some of the previous names have been Smoking Point in the 1700; in the 1800 it was called Old Blazing Star for a local tavern. There is an abandoned cemetery named The Blazing Star Burial Ground. In 1830's it was renamed Rossville after Col. William E. Ross. He built a replica of Windsor Castle overlooking the ferry.

In 1861 the name changed to Prince's Bay honoring William, Prince of Orange who became king of England from 1650-1702.

Conference House
Tottenville

The history of this area goes back to the 1600 when it was part of the Manor of Bentley. At that time it was called "the Neck" until 1862 when the name was changed to Tottenville to honor Major General Joseph G. Totten. He was chief engineer of the US Army. In 1776 the home of Christopher Billop (now known as Conference House) was the location for an unsuccessful negotations between the British and the Colonist during the American Revolution.

Bloomfield
boundaries: Mariner's Harbor, Graniteville, Bull Head
In 1874 this name appeared in an atlas; it has been known by Bloomfield ever since. It was a commercial area with construction companies and oil companies, the major industries there. Today it is a high-tech incuberator.

Willowbrook
boundaries: Ashworth Ave., Richmond Ave, Victory Blvd., Sheradan Ave.
Willowbrook was named for a brook that passed through the farmland in this area. The College of Staten Island is in this neighborhood.
